Roth Contributions, Distributions & Rollovers
Presenter:
Mark Reasoner
Description:
Since January 1, 2006, qualified plans have been able to allow employees to make Roth deferrals to their plans. Roth deferrals to a 401(k) plan are the same as regular deferrals (pre-tax) except for the tax consequences. Roth distributions also have unique considerations and starting in 2010, participants can turn traditional contributions into Roth contributions using a new In-Plan Roth Rollover option. During this session, we will look at how to set up the plan, the census & payroll, the transactions and other steps needed to process Roth contribution amounts.

3:15 PM to 3:45 PM

Using Receivables
Presenter:
Mark Reasoner

Description: Contributions, particularly employer ones, have to be counted against the 415 limits for the year they are made. This means they have to be posted in that year. But it doesn’t mean they have to be funded. For many various reasons, the actual contribution might not be funded or even determined for many months after the end of the plan year in question. So, how can this contribution be processed in the correct year and yet not be shown in the participant’s account balance until it is actually made or funded? One answer to this is the receivables option. It will involve several steps, but the result will show the amount in the balances when it is available while still accounting for the contribution correctly in the appropriate compliance tests

3:45 PM to 4:15 PM

Data Administrator
Presenter: Mary Brown
Description: There will be times when we need to move or remove plans, people, or other records from Relius. It could be that we are no longer administering the plan. It could be that an employee’s record needs to be completely removed. Or there are Data Validation Center records that need to be eliminated. Or maybe we need to create a copy of the entire plan so that it can be moved to another workstation, or even sent to Relius Support. This session will show how the Data Administrator allows you do to these and more.

8:30 AM to 9:00 AM

Compensation Basics

Presenter: Mary Brown

Description: What is considered compensation? What makes it up? How is it used? What are the limits? This session on compensation will answer these questions and more. The session will cover what compensation is used for in Relius, how it is defined and applied, and then how we enter or import compensation into our census. From there, the session will look at what happens to this data when we process eligibility, contributions, etc.

9:00 AM to 9:30 AM

Gain/Loss Allocations
Presenter: Mary Brown
Description: We hope that a plan’s investments will grow over time. But sometimes, the investments will shrink. In Relius, these changes are reflected in our balances through the gains (and losses) we process. This session will look at how these transactions are done, along with various ways the process can be made more efficient. Gains (and Losses) can be processed for everyone in the plan and investment or individual participants, and can be imported as well as processed through transactions.

70 1/2 Distribution

Distributions
Presenter:
Mark Reasoner
Description: They happen because of Terminations, Hardships, Retirements, and many other reasons. Basically, a participant has the right to take their money out of the plan, provided certain requirements are met. Distributions might not be a welcomed part of plan administration, but they are a necessary one. Relius makes it easy, though, as once the options are set up and the requirements set, processing can be quick and efficient. Relius can even do just about everything involved from one place: from the status update, to forfeiting the non-vested balance, to calculating withholding for Form 1099, to the needed paperwork. All this even works if the distribution is for some reason other than termination.

Investment Table & Investment Models
Presenter:
Mary Brown
Description: The Investment Table is used with every plan in Relius Administration but there is a lot more there than just IDs, Names, and Prices. And then there are Investment Portfolios or Models. These are a group of investments designed to give the participant the benefit of research, risk tolerance and other factors. Usually designed to meet a specific goal, models can streamline options, serve as specific choices or even be the default investment selection. And they don’t have to be restricted to just one plan

Cash Reconciliation (Daily)
Presenter: Mark Reasoner
Description: When transactions are posted, the records in Relius should match the records at the custodian. At the least, there needs to be a way to compare the records to see if there are any differences. Relius Administration allows you to manually enter or import cash balances from a custodian and compare this to the calculated balance in Relius. Then you can reconcile your cash balances by identifying any differences between what has been processed through Relius and what has been processed through the custodian. You can also offset Relius transactions with custodian activity.
